I’m in a new musical: “Gee Willikers, SPACE!” Watch the preview video!

VideoPreviewNoPlayButton

I’m very excited to share the news of my upcoming sci-fi musical comedy, “Gee Willikers, SPACE!”. It’s an original production that’s full of laughs, and great, catchy songs! I hope you can help make it a smashing success by coming out to see it during its May 6-11 run here in Vancouver!

Gee Willikers Space!

The tone is “Mad Magazine meets Star Trek”, a tongue-in-cheek take on classic 50′s B-Movie sci-fi. Considering this is a low-budget production, the writer-producers, Katherine Stadel and Toni Maggio, have harboured some high-powered talent to bring their vision to life. Some fantastic sets and costumes are being prepared that will transport the audience into a fantastic world of retro-futuristic fantasy!

I play a mysterious space-shipwrecked stranger on the planet Zifroidia, who may not be exactly who he seems… I definitely have a nice meaty role, and a great duet with “Captain Kybosh”.

The show is being performed at Renegade Studios, a hidden gem comprising dozens of rehearsal studios and three large theatre production studios, one of which is where GWS will be presented.

VMTC Update – New Musicals Here or On The Way

Hi all!

Just a quick note that I’ve updated the Vancouver Musical Theatre Calendar (VMTC) with some more musical goodness! Upcoming or on now are:

Ride the Cyclone – on now!
Do You Want What I Have Got: A Craigslist Cantata – starts April 18
Dreamgirls, starts May 9
Avenue Q, starts June 19

And don’t forget Spring Awakening, the landmark musical coming to the Studio 58 stage starting this Thursday! A rock musical adaptation of an 1891 German play, Spring Awakening explores teenage self-discovery and emerging sexuality against the backdrop of a repressive 19th century Germany.

“There’s Something About Fairy” tonight through Saturday!

Jocelyn MacDougall as Terry the FairyThanks to being on a hiatus from this rollicking gang of musical comedians, I’m happy to be able to finally attend as a civilian and see the show from the audience’s point of view for the first time in 12 years(!). And this looks to be a treat, with the always-delightful Jocelyn MacDougall front and centre as Terry the Fairy. I’ll be there tonight for the preview – hope to see you there too!

The show runs tonight (preview) through Sat. with a matinee and evening show on that day.

Here’s the synopsis:

When Terry the Fairy discovers there’s more to her past than previously suspected, she embarks on a great adventure to Vancouver, home to that deadliest of all creatures: Man. Sure, she can grant wishes, but can she ever get what she herself wishes for most? And does she even know what that is? (She’s not too bright, so probably not).

Our 25th Broadway Chorus production features songs from a variety of unexpected sources, from cult shows like The Evil Dead to failed flops like Wonderland, from pop legends like David Bowie, and from current artists like Owl City.

Performance Works is at the South-East corner of Granville Island, near the hotel. Parking is free on the Island after 7:00pm (even in parkades!)

Visit the show website for links to purchase tickets!

And of course you’ll find complete details on the Vancouver Musical Theatre Calendar (VMTC)!
