City Opera Vancouver music advisor Sir Charles Mackerras won a Grammy in Los Angeles last night His recording of Humperdinck�s �Hansel and Gretel� gained the award in �Best Opera Recording� We phoned him this morning to offer our congratulations He�s a truly remarkable artist

This is Sir Charles� second Grammy, the first having been won for his ground-breaking recording in 1981 of Janacek�s �From the House of the Dead�

We also join all of Vancouver in congratulating violinist James Ehnes, conductor Bramwell Tovey, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for winning their own Grammy last night, �Best Soloist with Orchestra� Bravo to all!
