CITY OPERA VANCOUVER: News Update

Missing… Found At DTES Carnegie

On Wednesday 1 March 2017, you are invited to attend another Carnegie premiere. Please join us for a piano-vocal presentation of our new chamber opera, Missing – and stay to tell us what you think, and how you feel.

In the creation of every new piece, it is essential we road test and beta-test the work. We need your critical opinion as audience, and your good judgment as friends. We invite you to hear our new work-in-progress, and to offer your comments afterwards – in writing, or in person.

Librettist Marie Clements and composer Brian Current will be in attendance.

Missing

A piano-vocal workshop event. Seven singers, one piano.

2pm – 5pm

DTES Carnegie Centre

free, of course

Missing is a co-production of City Opera Vancouver, Pacific Opera Victoria, and Vancouver Moving Theatre/DTES Heart of the City Festival.

It premieres on 1 November at an invitational event for the families. We open our public run at The York Theatre on 3 November, and in Victoria two weeks later.

Missing is made possible by extraordinary awards from the Vancouver Foundation, Leon Judah Blackmore Foundation, Accent Inns, City of Vancouver, BC Arts Council, Canada Council for the Arts, and our friends and donors. We thank them all.

A salute (and a discount) to one of our friends...

Nordic Voices, an internationally acclaimed six-member à cappella group from Norway, returns to Vancouver with an all new program of works. Coloured by humour and positive thinking, Everything’s Gonna Be Alright brings together contemporary vocal works by György Ligeti, Goffredo Petrassi, Maja Ratkje and Lasse Thoresen. A highlight of the evening is Cecilie Ore’s new piece Dead Pope on Trial, specially commissioned by San Francisco’s Other Minds Festival for Nordic Voices.

The New Music Festival is extending an exclusive discount to City Opera mailing list subscribers only. (Please do not share via social media - this is just for you!) This offer is valid through February 15 (limited number of discounted tickets available). When ordering, simply click “Enter a Password or Discount Code” then enter the code CITYO to access the discounted tickets ($28 plus ticket service fees.) There is a maximum of 4 tickets per order.
