Rosie & the Riveters are bringing their brand new show to Wise Hall!  See & hear the reinvention of the band as they release their second studio album, Ms. Behave. Rosie & the Riveters’ vintage-inspired folk anthems paint a portrait of a woman’s voice in a man’s world. Although the band never intended to get political, they found that watching the news these days made it impossible to see the status of women around the world and stay silent. Their latest album, Ms. Behave, is a collection of gritty, sultry songs that feature playfully defiant lyrics and confident talk-back harmonies that empower and challenge.  Tickets $10 Listen here

Presented by Vancouver Opera Festival in partnership with SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs and The Kettle Society. Exploring themes of homelessness, poverty, mental illness, addiction and the plight of missing and murdered women – this strikingly original chamber work  unfolds as a memorial service for a young woman lost to the street. Requiem for a Lost Girl is created and performed in partnership with a chorus of people who know the experience of homelessness—a raw, gorgeous and heart-altering blend of true stories and the theatrical that amplifies voices and shines light on the streets of North America. Frankie’s Jazz Club – The Cookers

An exciting straight-ahead collective of some of Canada’s finest jazz musicians, the Cookers Quintet represents the best of two worlds. Drawing largely on the straight-ahead, classic jazz tradition, the band still carves out a lineage of authentically Canadian jazz music. Formed in 2009 in Toronto out of a shared passion for swinging, traditional jazz music, along the way, the group has developed a catalogue of original music. After signing with Do Right Music in 2015 the group has released The Cookers Quintet – Volume 2 and The Cookers Quintet Meets Johnny O’Neal. With Tim Hamel trumpet, Ryan Oliver tenor saxophone, Nick Peck piano, Alex Coleman bass, and Joe Poole drums.    Cover $15

External influences enter the body freely and are subsequently poked, nudged and shoved through a sifting process that feels at times arbitrary. Consciously and with full intention Lori Freedman and Nicolas Caloia have developed a certain “defining” process in attempt to control this phenomenon. Euro-Canadian Quintet Subtone stands in the forefront of today’s young innovative jazz ensembles. Founded in 2005 in Berlin, its members now live on both sides of the Atlantic, in St. John’s, Netherlands, Berlin, and Cologne. The group has collaborated with artists the likes of Kurt Rosenwinkel, Seamus Blake, Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, and Randy Brecker. With their own imaginative compositions, from the voluminous big band sound to a bare essential chamber music approach, Subtone has released four acclaimed albums in the last 10 years. Guilt & Company – The Burying Ground & Reed Turchi Pay-what-you-can

The Burying Ground have a lively and gritty sound with tight harmony and a driving rhythm section reminiscent of the music of the juke joints and jazz halls of the 1920’s and 30’s. Reed Turchi, raised in the Swannanoa Valley of North Carolina, is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, label head, band leader and solo artist. He is a master of guitar driven blues shapeshifting seamlessly between acoustic slide, electric juke joint boogie, and the improvisational, groove-driven, massive sound of his Kudzu Orchestra.
