Bruno Hubert is one of Canada’s most lyrical and expressive Jazz pianists, with a deep sense of swing, lush harmonies, and beguiling melodic lines. His conception, while highly original and utterly genuine, is evocative of, at once, Erroll Garner, Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans and other luminaries of jazz. While he is careful to stress that he is not a composer, he nevertheless presents a cornucopia of medley-like arrangements of jazz standards, soul, rock and pop influenced pieces. No cover listed. ![]() WISE Hall – Shannon Scott & Ida Nilsen By DonationJune 13, 2018 8:00 pm
The Wise Hall Lounge features a rare night of pianist songwriters: Ida Nilsen and Shannon Scott share a bill, each performing as a trio with some of Vancouver’s most renowned musicians. Ida Nilsen is a pianist, singer and songwriter. She led the band “Great Aunt Ida” from 2002 until 2013, releasing three albums of original material. Influenced by classic songs from a variety of genres, her writing has been called intimate and honest, warm and spare, and bordering on misanthropic. She is joined by Mark Haney and Barry Mirochnick. Shannon Scott’s songs blend elements of jazz harmony, pop melody and poetry; her music is expressed with an original voice as she winds her way through form and sound in unpredictable ways, and she invariably sings with her heart on her sleeve. Drummer Skye Brooks and guitarist Jeff Younger bring their deep sonic sensibilities to the music. ![]() Frankie’s Jazz Club – Louisiana JoymakersJune 13, 2018 8:00 pm
