Mrs.Lovett’s Pie Shop – Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Oct 16-31, 2018This event runs from October 16, 2018 until October 31, 2018.
The Snapshots Collective presents an intimate and site specific production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up… and the carnage has only just begun! Tickets $29 and up. Some lesser priced seats will require “twisting” in your seat to see all of the action. Seven Tyrants Theatre, Vancouver’s Jessie Award winning independent theatre company, opens its first season of work in their new performance venue with Samuel Beckett’s absurdist one-man masterpiece: Krapp’s Last Tape. Shades of Blue/Shades of Loss is a one-day event focused on the concepts of grieving and loss. The event will kick off with an afternoon (1 pm to 5 pm) of information, music and interactive sessions including workshops (such as processing grief through movement, journaling and poetry as well as a session on grieving for men); an art exhibit; and grief stations (such as the anger/art room). Admission to the workshops is by donation. In the evening the Shades of Blue/Shades of Loss performance will include music (by the Marcus Mosely Chorale), singing, dancing, spoken word and guest speakers. Sonny Greenwich came to prominence in the 1970s and his career spanned several decades. His very original style combines the phrasing of jazz great Grant Green and the spiritual qualities of John Coltrane’s music. The band will be performing tunes by Sonny and a few original compositions by Tony Wilson.
