Gold Saucer – Sawdust Collector: New Works 14 Pay-what-you-canNovember 13, 2018 9:30 pm
Sawdust Collector. Weekly performance series curated by Barbara Adler, Cole Schmidt & James Meger. Tuesdays at the Gold Saucer Studio. The award-winning Burning scored highest ever on Screen’s annual critics’ poll at the Cannes festival earlier this year. Riffing nimbly on a Murakami Haruki short story, Lee Changdong’s masterful thriller flickers with mystery. Jongsoo (Yoo Ahin, Veteran) reunites with classmate Haemi (Jun Jongseo), who seduces him and then scoots off to Africa. She returns with suave, moneyed Ben (Okja’s Steve Yeun), who makes Jongsoo roil with envy and self-pity; a creepy confession plunges him into tormenting despair. Burning imbues South Korea’s simmering social unrest with universal resonance.
