Weekly performance series curated by Barbara Adler, Cole Schmidt & James Meger. Tuesdays at the Gold Saucer Studio Veda Hille‘s Implorer’s Club (working title) is a new solo show made with Theatre Replacement. It is about curiosity, miracles, and the animals we love. Veda is a Vancouver composer and songwriter. She has released 21 albums of her fiercely independent work. Ford Pier has released six solo albums, two more with his rock band The Vengeance Trio, and another with his string quartet Strength Of Materials. He has written and arranged for symphony orchestra and chamber ensembles, had lyrics published in Geist magazine, lectured at The University Of Applied Sciences Europe in Berlin, composed electronic soundscapes for fashion shows, and recorded or toured with artists as varied as D.O.A., The Rheostatics, and Neko Case. Lesley Telford is based in Vancouver, Canada as choreographer and director of Inverso Productions as well as on Faculty at Arts Umbrella’s Professional Dance Program leading the Performance Research Project Doors at 9:00 PM, Performance at 9:30 PM, $5 – $10 or PWYC at the door, cash only.

Fake Cascade will be starting it off at 2:00pm, followed by The Watermill Project. Admission is by donation. Watermill Project is a musical exploration and interpretation of traditional Korean vocal music through the lens of jazz and improvisation. Combining the unique sound and characteristic of traditional Korean vocal music and jazz, the quartet portrays stories of life, love, longing and hope. Sara Kim on Voice, Dan Reynolds on Keys, Eli Davidovici on Bass, and Mili Hong on Drums Fake Cascade features (mostly) original songs by Alex Scott. Unassuming melodies, catchy hooks and three-part harmonies juxtapose lyrics exploring some of the darker sides of life; fear of pending apocalypse, the aftermath of said apocalypse, and good ol’ heartbreak and uncertainty. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and currently nominated for an Academy Award (Best Foreign Language Film), Lebanese writer-director Nadine Labaki’s kinetic, timely, captivating drama Capernaum (“Chaos”) tells the story of Zain (Zain al Rafeea), a Lebanese boy who sues his parents for the “crime” of giving him life. Made with a cast of non-professional actors playing characters whose lives closely parallel their own, the film follows the gutsy, streetwise child as he flees his negligent parents, survives through his wits on the streets, takes care of Ethiopian refugee Rahil (Yordanos Shiferaw) and her baby son, Yonas (Boluwatife Treasure Bankole), being jailed for a crime, and finally, seeks justice in a courtroom. Jim Campilongo’s musical stylings earned him the title of “Telecaster Master” from The New Yorker and his own Campilongo Signature Telecaster from Fender Guitars in 2012. Luca Benedetti co-founded the hard-hitting country jazz outfit, Speeding West, in Vancouver. Together, they collaborated on the Honeyfingers’ 2015 album, Last Night, This Morning, which was hailed as “a hoedown throw down that looks to be one of the top guitar records of the year.” [Guitar Player Magazine] Tickets $25

A special Heatley opening on a Monday night! Luca Benedetti is thrilled to be back in BC this February. He will be  playing music again with Jeremy Holmes and Nino DiPasquale.  Scott Smith is regretfully unavailable to complete a proper Speeding West reunion but Luca, Jeremy & Nino will be holding down the fort and hopefully also joined by friends and special guests. Expect music from the forthcoming CD as well as tracks from the 2017 Speeding West album and who knows what else!
