Vancouver International Jazz Festival June 25-July 1, 2019

The Vancouver International Jazz Festival is BC’s largest music festival, attracting close to 1800 artists and over half a million jazz enthusiastic participants. This is the 34th Annual with some 300 concerts at close to three dozen venues over the course of two weeks, including over 150 free shows.   And there is the after-hours jam at Frankie’s at 11p.m. every night. Friday June 28 – Lorne Lofsky & Bill Coon guitar duo FREE East coast and west coast guitar masters round two. 3 pm Saturday June 29 – Len Aruliah 5tet FREE with Jared Burrows guitar, Nick Peck piano, Rob Kohler bass, Joe Poole drums and Len Aruliah saxophones. 8 pm Saturday June 22 – Bill Coon 5tet FREE with Campbell Ryga sax, Buff Allen drums, Paul Rushka bass, Bill Coon guitar and special guest Lorne Lofsky guitar. 1 pm Monday July 1 – Vancouver Legacy Jazz Orchestra Fred Stride leads an all Canadian program. VLJO, founded by Michael Kim and Fred Stride, has been in Vancouver’s big band scene since 2015. The full sized big band presents program-based concerts featuring world renowned big band composers/arrangers including Rob McConnell, Thad Jones, Maynard Ferguson, Bill Holman, Bob Florence, Bob Brookmeyer, etc. $20 at the door, $15 students.

Eclectic jazz served up by Ron Johnston on the piano and Cameron Hood on the bass on a regular Friday basis. Also on Saturdays. With musical guests dropping by regularly to sit in. Be surprised and entertained!

Libra Room – Jimi James Trio with John Gross By Donation

The Jimi James Fraser trio was started 3 years ago when several students of music decided to move in together and create Jazz House. Since then  they have been practicing and jamming almost every night with amazing musicians from all over Vancouver.  John Gross the great L.A tenor player has been a big inspiration to the band.

Blue Moon Marquee: Stemming from the Badlands of the Rocky Mountain prairies, Blue Moon Marquee is a self-styled gypsy blues band. This authentic duo writes and performs original compositions influenced by early blues, swing, and ragtime. Ryan McNally: Whether he’s playing with his own solo band or other various outfits, he can’t be kept off Canadian stages. Ryan puts most of his energy in his passion for studying acoustic traditional blues, jazz and old time music.
