She (Teri Garr) falls for a lounge singer (Raul Julia). He (Frederic Forrest) is bedazzled by a circus girl (Nastassja Kinski). Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle provide bluesy musical commentary, while Coppola lays on all the razzamatazz his shortlived Zoetrope studio could conjure – which is to say, a lot.
