Spanning
27 years of the silent film era in early "Hollywoodland",
Mack and Mabel recalls the bitter-sweet love affair between
Mack Sennett and the heroine of his movies, Mabel Normand
through the funny and fabulous world of pies in the face,
Keystone Kops and Bathing Beauties.
The magnificent score written by Jerry Herman (Hello
Dolly,
Mame, La Cage Aux Follies, Dear World) includes Movies
Were Movies, Big Time, I Won't Send Roses, Hundreds
of Girls,
Time Heals Everything and Tap Your Troubles
Away. The show
opened on Broadway in 1974 starring Robert Preston and Bernadette
Peters, but surprisingly only ran sixty six performances.
