It
all happened so quickly! Within 5 days I went from having no projects
to having completed a shoot for my first commercial.
It's a Public
Service Announcement (PSA) for Elections BC,
and will be running for the 4 weeks leading up to the election
on
May 17. But you won't see it on television... It will be playing
in
movie theatres throughout BC! I'm super excited!
I'm the only one in the PSA, and I had to dust off my sign language
skills, as most of the ad is me signing, with a bit of speaking
at the end. We had an expert signer on set, and luckily I only
had to adjust a few signs. The PSA is aimed towards getting
the younger generation (18 - 24 year olds) to register and vote.
Here's a little breakdown of the events, and how fast everything
happened.
Tuesday, Jan 18
I got a call from my agent for an audition the following day.
He asks how my sign language is and I laugh, "It's a little
rusty, but
not too bad." (I learned basic sign language in elementary
school and haven't really used it since. But I still remember
it, thank goodness!)
Wednesday, Jan 19
12:15 pm -
I go to the studio for my audition. I don't actually audition
until 1:30pm, because of how involved the process is for
this project (they were treating the audition as the callback
as well). I do my audition and it goes well. I had to state my
age during the
audition
and
they were blown away when I told them. (That in itself made my
day!)
4:30 pm -
I receive a call from my agent that I've been put "on hold",
meaning that the director and producer
liked
me and want to cast me, but they just have to get the OK from
all the other departments involved. We'll get the final word
tomorrow.
Thursday, Jan 20
I get the call, and I've booked the gig! SO excited!
Friday, Jan 21
I have my wardrobe fitting at the studio.
Saturday, Jan 22
I film the commercial at this amazing place by
Granville and Pacific! I clock in at 8:30 am, and leave at 6:00
pm.
It was a lot of fun - I met some great people, ate some delicious
food, and most importantly, got to film! The directors (there
were 2) even let me see some of the footage during the shoot.
I can't wait to see the finished product. Let's go to the movies!
