  AUGUST 25, 2009

I hope you've been enjoying your beautiful summer! I definitely have and am super excited to let you know what's been going on. After Flower Drum Song closed in June, I was able to get back out to the auditioning world for film. July saw quite a few auditions, but nothing came of them. Then in early August, I had a great week... I booked three gigs! In one week I played a compassionate care aide for Worksafe BC, a disgruntled employee for the BC Law Courts, and a mother with a huge love for coffee, for a UK coffee brand. That was the first time I got to film with a toddler and it was, well, interesting. Normally the director will yell, "Action" so it was really funny to see them scramble to film when the toddler suddenly decided she was ready to do what was needed.

And on top of that, it's Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon (MAMM) time! This is my fourth year being involved with this crazy film contest that has you create, shoot, edit, and submit a short film in a short time period. This year 15 teams presented their ideas on Aug 8th and had to turn in the final product (an 8 minute film) on Aug 20th. I am so lucky to be with the same team - Team AlwaysFurther! Thank you for asking me back, Patrick, Sam, and Darryl! Filming days were hectic and long, as we were limited to one and a half weekends, due to those dreaded-but-needed day jobs we all have. But it was also fun! Here's a quick scenario of the mayhem behind our movie, "This End Up", that is the contest:

Day one, Sat Aug 8th: Patrick, Sam, and Darryl pitched their idea. That night we had a team meeting for a read through of the script.
Day two, Sun Aug 9th: Filming starts!
Day three, Sat Aug 15: Filming continues
Day four, Sun Aug 16 (and trickling into the early hours of Monday): Filming of all main scenes is done. Now it's up to the creative team to view, put together, edit, revise, and come up with the final 8-minute film.

One of the best parts of this contest (besides creating a movie!) is the Gala Screening, where all the completed films will be shown on the big screen at Tinseltown. Here are the details for this year's Gala event!
