First off, thank you so much for your support for saving the Hollywood Theatre!

Earlier, I asked if you would sign up to speak at a City Council meeting this Wednesday, Dec. 4. That’s when a report on Heritage will be presented at City Council which contains actions that, if urgently acted upon by Council, can help save the Hollywood.

This is a second request, to ensure an impressive turnout. Tomorrow, we want it to be crystal-clear how strong the support is for saving our treasured and much-needed heritage community space! So…

Podium-shy? Don’t worry! You only need to say one sentence to qualify as a speaker. Plus, if you wish to make a longer statement and would like some background to help you to prepare, we’ve provided some notes and pointers on our website to help you feel prepared and confident. But all you really need to do is express what the Hollywood means to you and urge Council to follow the Actions the Coalition recommends.

If you can attend, great. If you can’t make it to the Council meeting you can send in a letter of support.

When you arrive at City Hall, we have “Save the Hollywood Theatre” buttons to wear. They have been created by a local artist and are beautiful! We are selling them for five dollars as a source of funding for this campaign. But no one will be refused a button for free.

If for some reason you can’t speak that day, your presence and wearing of a “Save the Hollywood Theatre” button at City hall during the meeting will be very welcome.

Background: why Wednesday’s meeting is so important

We’re working hard on multiple fronts to keep the iconic Hollywood as a vital, heritage community and cultural space. We’re talking to renters, finding purchasers (we’ve found three so far), and putting together a business plan. But the pieces of our solution aren’t all in place just yet, and this Wednesday, December 4, we need you more than ever.

A council majority made the delivery of this “Heritage Action Plan” a keystone goal of the current 75-day moratorium protecting the Hollywood theatre.

Many of the Actions proposed in the Heritage Report will probably do little to help save the Hollywood Theatre, as they apply to Heritage generally. But there are some specific actions that can make a difference in both the short and long term and we need you to come to support these actions that could potentially contribute to the Hollywood’s preservation and future viability..
