Nationwide musical event kicks off campaign against abuse and sexual violenceAt 10:15 on Saturday, October 24th, choirs across Canada will sing simultaneously in surprise locations from coast to coast, all in the name of ending abuse and sexual violence against women and girls worldwide. The nationwide musical ‘flash mob’ extravaganza is being organized by Vancouver-based group Compassion Globally and is the brainchild of its founder Peter Bardon. “Compassion Globally aims to make our world a more secure place for girls, for women and for men,” said Bardon. “We are not reinventing the wheel. We are making that wheel worldwide. Only with a worldwide organization can we accomplish our goal.” These choirs, in locations ranging from BC to the Maritimes and Nunavut, will sing in English, French, and Inuktitut, and several will perform a song specially-written for the occasion, “Hope in Every Handshake”. The tune was composed by Jenny Morgan of North Vancouver’s Higher Ground Women’s Ensemble. More information can be found on the Compassion Globally website, www.compassionglobally.org.
