Hi everyone, I write this with both sadness and great urgency, as I've been involved with the Pantages Theatre project in my own small way for some time. After spending considerable money to hold and maintain the building and adjoining properties (necessary for a fully-functioning and modern theatre), the Pantages' owner has been forced by the actions of City Council to put all of the properties up for sale. The FOR SALE signs are now posted. Barring a change from the city, it's presumed that this irreplaceable herit ...Continue Reading

October 20th, 2008 Great Halloween Costumes in Surrey Just wanted to pass along the word about the enormous selection of Halloween costumes (over 500!) that my friend Rene Schindel is offering this year through her company, The Costume Bank. Rene is a talented costumer who’s made countless casts look good on stage over the years, and now she can help transform YOU into any one of hundreds of fantastical characters. Rates are very reasonable and the quality is excellent. She is open daily from 1-7pm, and you can call& ...Continue Reading

October 9th, 2008 Election strategies for Tuesday With multiple elections looming, it’s a critical time for everyone who believes in democracy to make sure their voice - and their vote - is heard. This year, there seem to be a lot of creative ideas being shared, and and some excellent websites running that enable people to really make their vote count. I personally want to do whatever I can to drive the Conservatives out of power or at the very least keep them in very much a minority position. You may well feel differ ...Continue Reading

Hi all! Hope you are well and enjoying our crisp and sunny (so far) fall weather. I wanted to pass along a question (from me) and a notice (from my friend Mary Clark). Housesitting Situation Wanted My Mom is planning to move up here in November or early December and I'm trying to help find her accommodations of some sort. It's a big move for her (returning to Canada after 25 years in the Bay Area), and her things are going to be in storage for a while as she focuses on getting set up here. Housesitting would be a gr ...Continue Reading

September 29th, 2008 It’s a busy and exciting time lately - not only did I finally shoot a role in a student film, but now I’ve been cast in an exciting theatre project: “Bruce - The Musical”, a rambunctious, dramatic and humorous show that tells the story of Vancouver political activist Bruce Eriksen. It’s quite a concept, portraying well-known political figures from the city’s past and present… with drama, singing and dancing! The show is inspiring, funny and thought-provoking, and I’m really excited to be involved ...Continue Reading

Hi All! I've been cast in a new musical from Theatre in the Raw, entitled "BRUCE: THE MUSICAL". It tells the story of legendary Vancouver Downtown Eastside activist Bruce Eriksen and should be a great show. There are certainly some wonderful and talented people behind it. But I have just learned that they need one more man! If you can sing and act, are of the male persuasion, and in the 30's to 40's range, please get in touch with them ASAP, as rehearsals are about to start. The contact is Jay Hamburger, a ...Continue Reading

September 11th, 2008 We’re right in the middle of the Fringe Festival and I have some reviews to share! I’ve only seen four shows, so it’s not an exhaustive cross-section, but even still, my three reviews include a must-see musical, an engaging storyteller, and a run-for-the-exits dud. Read on for full reviews! Fringe Review: The Musical of Musicals - The Musical! One of the most high-energy, crowd-pleasing offerings at the Fringe, “Musical of Musicals” is a delight! Whether or not you’re a musical-theatre buff, thi ...Continue Reading

August 23rd, 2008 In my occasional, yet eternal quest to support musical theatre in Vancouver, I’m sending the word out about a really wonderful show I was privileged to see last night: “The World Goes ‘Round”, a revue of Kander and Ebb songs. If the name of that Broadway duo doesn’t ring a bell, well, they’re the team behind “Cabaret”, “Chicago”, and much much more. Below you’ll find my in-depth review. The show includes one song from Chicago, “Mister Cellophane”, and seeing it performed reminded me of my own wacky, ...Continue Reading

August 7th, 2008 Hi everybody! Here’s some of what’s up in my world that I wanted to share with you. Especially exciting is the selection by “Found” magazine of a note I fetched off the street as their “Find of the Day”! But wait -there’s more… some great pictures of the Fireworks (from a new and dramatic vantage point), and the joyous exuberance of the Pride Parade (including a checklist of “standard” Parade elements, with photo links). Enjoy! I’m Found Magazine’s “Find of the Day”! I always knew that one day, my pe ...Continue Reading
