June 16th (preview) to 19th at the Waterfront Theatre, Granville Island Transylvania’s only modern musical theatre group battles the undead in Priscilla, Queen of the Damned, an uproarious, outrageous musical “monster mashup”! It takes a queen to fight a queen, so when the Vampire Queen next door abducts the entire second soprano section, a trio of cross-dressing crowd-pleasers turn hero and wage war. In this, its 20th production, The Broadway Chorus has pulled out all the stops. There’s fabulous costumes, beautiful pr ...Continue Reading

Latest news for May 26th, 2010 Two very different musical offerings in this week’s update! First up is Sumida Gawa / Curlew River, the combination of Western opera and Japanese dance which my friends at City Opera Vancouver are putting on starting tonight. Then for something completely different, a sneak preview of The Broadway Chorus’ show for summer 2010: Priscilla, Queen of the Damned, coming in June (and including myself as “Yuri”!). The only connection between these two wildly different shows, perhaps, is the men ...Continue Reading

Latest news for April 27th, 2010 Join the Annual Walk for Vancouver Rape Relief It’s that time again, yes, a time for fun, frolic, music and bands, and most/best of all, supporting a women’s shelter and crisis line. I speak of course of the annual Walk for Vancouver Rape Relief! The event is a walk (or bike, or rollerblade, or…) around the Stanley Park Seawall, followed by a delicious free picnic lunch and some amazing live bands. And it’s all in support of a shelter and crisis line that has been offering support for ...Continue Reading

A sincere "thank you" to those of you who voted for my friend Naomi in her quest to win her online contest. It was a tremendous boost. But with voting ending tomorrow, she needs you more than ever today! Her one serious competitor among the other 9 finalists is giving her a run for her money. The mysterious "KH" has made a last-minute push and is leading the voting again - by about 35 votes (1016 to 980) as of this writing. Sunday is the last day, and you can vote once per day. Another click or two ...Continue Reading

Hi all! I'll keep this brief... a friend of mine has made the Top 10 list of finalists in a contest, she could win a nice little prize package, and now it comes down to - you guessed it - online voting. She's at about 500 votes and her only real competition has 563. If everyone on this list gives her a click, she's bound to win. There's only 5 days left - voting ends on the 15th. So if you have a second, here's the link. No registration, no nothing, just click "Vote" under her listing - the name is "Naom ...Continue Reading

Hi all! This is a bit last minute, but I thought I'd throw it out there... Vine & Fig Tree Books, a great little bookstore on MacDonald, is having their annual open house event this Saturday afternoon. Elaine Perry is the owner and she asked me if I knew any musicians as she'd like to have someone play for a couple of hours (for which she can pay $50). Something soothing and melodic... one year there was a harp player... some nice classical guitar would work... that sort of thing. If any of you think you'd fill the ...Continue Reading

Well, Christine and I have finally made the leap into home ownership and bought ourselves a condo in the Fairview district. But now that we've confirmed the sale, there's still much to do and paperwork to finalize - for which we require professional legal services. (My idea to just read "Real Estate Law for Dummies" was voted down firmly...) We can get recommendations from our real estate agent or our mortgage broker, but I thought I should first check with my friends. Nothing like a personal recommendation. ...Continue Reading
