DVD Raises the Bar

My original goal in this section was to encourage fans of the film to write Miramax directly and make a plea to them to simply release the film in a "director's cut" VHS version. But that was before the days of DVD.

It's different now – deleted scenes, alternate framings, cast and crew interviews, trailers, even screen tests are commonly included with a film's DVD release. I'm sure you agree that if any film is worthy of this deluxe treatment (and a lot of far less stellar films have received it), it's Heavenly Creatures.

The painstaking research that went into the writing and making of the film; the archival materials on the real events; and, most notably, the extra ten minutes of footage seen only in the original NZ theatrical release and NZ videotape – the elements are all there for an outstanding DVD that truly does the film justice.

So a deluxe DVD of Heavenly Creatures should be due any day, right? Alas...
