Mediocrity So FarAmong the video releases of HC to date there have actually been two DVD releases of HC - one from Canada and one from France. (An additional German release has only a German-language soundtrack.) But neither of them came close to a proper representation of this film in either visual quality or extra materials. Both only presented a (by all accounts) pedestrian pan-and-scan transfer of the film, and the French release was only viewable on Region 2 players (unless one resorted to non-standard hacks of either one's computer or, even more dificult, one's standalone DVD player). And neither version offered more than the most rudimentary features such as cast bios, let alone anything extra such as deleted scenes. However, a recent posting at DVD site The Digital Bits listed Heavenly Creatures as a DVD in production but not yet announced. I have since made contact with an individual at Disney who's in a position to know, and he says he is not aware of a DVD of HC being in the works. But I would assume that it's possible that it's being considered, albeit not formally announced. Miramax is not known for stellar DVD releases. As Creatures Correspondent Gregor Sameson writes:
So if Miramax is in fact planning a DVD release, they need to hear from us. And if not, they must be made aware that there is a demand. It's time to act! |
