A Victorian vaudeville murder mystery where YOU decide whodunit!
I am pleased to announce my participation in this latest APPLAUSE! Musicals production. Presented for the first time in the Lower Mainland, this Tony-award winning musical dares to tell the story of Charles Dickens’ novel of the same name. Daring, as the book remains unfinished, due to the author’s death in 1870 halfway through its writing.
The resulting show is a wonderful blend of ribald comedy, compelling mystery and lively music, as we are transported back to the 19th century and meet the members of the Music Hall Royale in London, who present us with their latest show – “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”. The story is told with tongue firmly in cheek, as the characters are revealed, and the devilish plot is unfurled. The actors of the Music Hall Royale step in and out of character, engage (and harangue) the audience, and – when they run out of story – enlist the audience to decide who the murderer is (and even if there has indeed been a murder!) There’s much cheering, plus booing and hissing of villains.
It’s all great fun, tons of laughs and sure to be a memorable evening at the theatre.
I hope you can come out to the Shadbolt to see me and the rest of this talented cast in The Mystery of Edwin Drood!
