Global News’ Mike Mccardell reports on the Pantages Theatre, a neglected treasure in the Downtown Eastside. Included is footage of Santa (aka Charles Barber of City Opera Vancouver) delivering gifts to the new Vancouver city councillors – bound books containing copies of over 500 of the many hundreds of letters in support of the Pantages, written to the previous Council when the news broke that negotiations between the city and the developer, who planned to restore the theatre, had fallen apart. Hopefully the new council will be more cognizant of the heritage, social housing and community benefits of this amazing and vital project. Fingers are crossed that the Pantages will yet rise again!
