Local musical urgently needs male actor
My friend Mary Clark is producing a new, original musical called “Under The Hawthorn Tree”, based on a best-selling Irish novel of the same name. And she is now in dire need of one male singer/actor! If you’re interested, or know someone who might be, do get in touch with her at cymbelina@shaw.ca .
Here’s the details Mary provided:
The Schedule
We rehearse 2 -3 times a week (we already had our first read through) generally on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, but we’re still in our first week of rehearsal. It’s a brand new musical that’s never been done before! We go up in March at the Havana.
The Story
It is a work of historical fiction but many of the elements of the story occurred during the time of the potato famine (1840’s). Our story follows three children who have been abandoned by their parents (due to extenuating circumstances) and they decide to find their long lost family in lieu of going to the workhouses. They travel across Ireland and see many things and meet many people and have many experiences. It is essentially the famine seen through the eyes of these children.
The Role
The role I am needing to cover is actually a variety of roles played by one man. He’d be part of the chorus, as well as a Beggar, an Old Scavenger, a Tinker and various others. This is the first production of the show – we are considering it a “workshop production”, hopefully it will lay the groundwork for future productions. The script will be mostly how it is now, but we are open to shifting/shaping things to make it the best show possible and we need creative, insightful actors for this as well! The goal is to have a piece of theatre that will move and inspire the audiences we will have, which includes costumes and sets.
