Members of Vancouver’s Jewish community gathered at the West End Community Centre’s ice rink for a “Chanukah on Ice” celebration, with skating, Chanukah songs on the PA system, and the lighting of a gigantic ice Menorah. The sight of religious Jewish men in black fedoras – on skates – was priceless. There were also lots of cute kids! As well, my friend Jhayne Holmes was there with her boyfriend and her Mom, documenting the event. Really, this mash-up of Jewish tradition with pure frozen-north Canadiana was something to behold. It kind of made my head spin. Or maybe it’s just that I was wobbly on my skates… at any rate, you can check out the entire photoset here.
