Vintage White Spot Pirate Pak

Old one in front, current one in back.

I may be alone in this, but personally I think it’s pretty cool that I still have an authentic, original 1970’s White Spot Pirate Pak. It must date from the mid-70’s, when we lived in Vancouver and White Spot was a regular (and favourite) dining option for us. I loved going there, and would usually order a Pirate Pak with a mushroom burger. And not only did I keep the cardboard boat at least one time, but – thanks to folding it flat and storing it amongst my various other ju- er, memorabilia – it has survived the decades relatively intact! It’s finally occurred to me that it might be fun to share it, so I snapped a few pics. So here, for the first time on the web, is my original Pirate Pak, complete with groovy 70’s-style graphics, and big-sideburned pirate crew. I’ve also included one view of it side-by-side with the current version. Interesting that the boat has got much larger, lost its hold/deck cover, and gained an awkward sail that I couldn’t seem to get the straw through properly). The chocolate coin slot remains, though. Hope you enjoy the pics. It certainly makes me happy to still have this remnant of my childhood… though Christine just thinks it’s further evidence that I’m a Pirate Pak-rat.

  1. thank you so much for posting this! White spot just shared it on their Facebook page. For many years I wondered if I had just made up the pirate puppet on the bottom in my head but now I know it was a real memory. We went to white spot every Sunday in the seventies and eighties. Thanks again!

  2. Thanks for sharing this! My son recently got his first pirate pack and I was disappointed by how hokey they look now. I remember this one fondly, and had totally forgotten about the cut-out figure on the bottom.

    Thanks again!

Now, if they’d only get rid of the insipid current logo… bring back the chicken!
