I’m not a close follower of the latest pop music by any means, but I stumbled across, then utterly fell in love with, Daft Punk’s new album, Random Access Memories. Its combines their patented futuristic sound with a classic funk and pop feel from the seventies and early eighties. In the course of creating the album, they worked with a wide cross-section of artists, some very current and some that go way back  – including a personal favourite of mine, who I never thought I’d hear something new (and so good) from: Paul Williams! The result is something that feels not like a retread or re-creation, but totally new – and infectiously danceable. The Creators Project produced eight separate short interviews with each of the collaborators Daft Punk worked with on this album. However, with so many perceptive comments and common themes spread across the different interviews, I felt they begged to be combined into one conventional, full documentary. That’s what I’ve attempted here – and the result is only about 20 minutes long, compared to the hour and seven minutes’ total running time of all original videos. Of course, I can take no credit for the polished production values and great interviews – but I am proud of the work I did weaving this together. It sometimes took quite a bit of editing trickery to keep it seamless. Ideally, this comes across as something the original filmmakers created themselves. At any rate, I hope you enjoy it.
