John Koerner, 95-year-old working painter… and new blogger
I just completed a most interesting and gratifying project, a website for painter John Koerner. A member of the Vancouver School, he was part of a group of painters that helped define modernism in the middle of the 20th century. And at 95, he is the oldest still-working member of that group.
Not only is he working, he’s got a new exhibit coming up in October! You can get all the details on his site. You can also watch a recent video profile of him done by the CBC.
Getting to know John, as well as his family – his wife, Lisa, an accomplished writer and former globetrotting journalist, and his daughter Diane – has been a true pleasure. John has such a positive, spiritual outlook on life, is quick with a smile or a laugh, and is still exploring and growing creatively, all of which is surely part of his secret of longevity. It’s an honour to know him and I’m thrilled to have been able to bring his story and images to the Web.
I’m also delighted to report that John is now a blogger as well! Part of his new website is devoted to his thoughts which he plans to share on a regular basis. He’s already put some brief but thoughtful prose up there – click here to read it.
Adam, the new website is really classy and clean. I like it a lot.
The new photo seems to make me think of Ira Glass.
